SeaLife Wall Mural

{My Inner Five Year Old Living Her Best Life}

SYNOPSIS

This project was an exciting one! I collaborated with a local Church familiar with my artwork that invited me to do a 20ft by 8ft Wall mural in one of their classrooms. They gave me tremendous freedom in creative direction for the final outcome. The main concept they wanted was a SeaLife Scene to match the theme of their classroom and could there be dolphins included in the scene? Then with extreme trust…they said “Go!”.

Mock Up

First order of Business was a full to-scale mockup of the mural and the client’s approval of the concept. My favorite is when a client is already excited about a project and when you send them the mock-up they ask…“Wait, for real? You can do this?” Tears of Joy are great too but it’s always fun to assure them as they look at you with incredulous expressions. “Yes…Yes I can.”

Really Big Sketch

Three weeks, a whole lot of Starbucks, seven dolphins, two turtles, a diver, two starfish, a couple of Nemos, a whole lot of Hawaiian fish and a Dory later (and one round of happy tears from the teacher who's classroom it was) and the mural was officially complete.

An Industry friend asked me afterward if, at 20ft by 8ft, had I been intimidated at the sheer size and scope of the project?

To my initial surprise I realized I actually hadn't taken the time to be intimidated. Instead, the excitement over the possibilities and opportunity afforded by the project kept me inspired throughout the process, and as a result I simply forgot to be intimidated.
